The Yaal Devi train will reach Omantha after 21 years.
The Omantha Railway station which was destroyed by the terrorists has been developed as a main railway station. The rail track between Thandikulam and Omantha was also developed. The 10 kilometers were renovated at the expenditure of 500 million rupees. The Railway Department has provided 450 million rupees while the Army has granted 50 million rupees. Four bridges and two culverts in the railway line, destroyed by the terrorists have been repaired. Earlier Omantha Railway station functioned as a sub station. The private sector has also contributed for the modernization of the station. The railway station will be inaugurated tomorrow under the patronage of Minister Kumara Welgama. It will be the first occasion when the train will be operated up to Omantha since 23rd June 1990. A special function has been organized to welcome the Yaal Devi train which will leave Colombo Fort railways station at 5.45 a.m., at the Omantha railway station. The development work of the 159 kilometer Northern rail track has also been accelerated.
