Renowned member of the Hela Havula Arisen Ahubudu has passed away.
Kalashuri Arisen Ahubudu was 91 years when he passed away this afternoon. He was born on 18th March 1920 in Malalagama in Koggala as Devundara Dewamanimendra Aaryasena Ashubodha. He changed his name to Arisen Ahubudu due to his great attachment to the Sinhala language resulting from his association with Kumaratunga Munidasa. He served as a teacher in a number of schools throughout the island and after retirement worked as an Editor at the office of the Sinhalese Encyclopaedia. Until 1994 he worked as a consultant to the Prime Minister and a language consultant to the President. He is known as an expert in the Sinhalese language. He rendered much service to preserve the correct usage of the language. He has authored many books including poetry. He was also a lyricist. There are many popular songs penned by him. He has contributed to children’s literature by writing many children’s books. He has named thousands of babies and commercial organizations in the country. He was an artist as well. It was his habit to gift a copy of a Buddha Statue sketched by him to those who came to visit him. The funeral arrangements will be notified later.
