The development work in the Colombo City is being accelerated.
The Cabinet has granted funds amounting to 16.7 billion rupees for this purpose. Speaking at a news briefing Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that the funds will be utilized for the development of infrastructure and services. The project is being implemented on a proposal of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The funds are being used for the streamlining water supply, management of water resources, control of floods and beatification of the city. The Cabinet has also granted approval for setting up a unit for the management of development projects. The Cabinet also granted approval to launch an electronic system to issue visas through the internet for the foreigners who visit the country. The proposal was presented to the Cabinet by the President in his capacity as the Defence Minister.
The draft of the Police Training School Act has been gazetted. The school will be set up to improve knowledge and skills of the police officers as well as those who implement the law. The relevant proposal was presented by the President to the Cabinet and it has been approved.
