The UNDP Country Director in Sri Lanka Douglas Kay has stated that a golden era has dawned upon Sri Lanka and those who are living during this period are most privileged.
He expressed this view at the launch of a website and a map of natural resources in the Northern Province to facilitate sustainable development. The function was held this morning in Colombo under the patronage of Ministers Basil Rajapaksa and Anura Priyadarshana Yapa. Expressing his views the UN Country Director said that there are only a few countries that could directly enter the development path in a post conflict era. He pointed out that special achievements of Sri Lanka cannot be underestimated. He pointed out that this is the best era to have dawned upon Sri Lanka. The Central Environment Authority, Ministry of Environment, Disaster Management Ministry and 25 other organizations have jointly prepared the map of natural resources and environment in the North to assist the ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ massive development programme. The United Nations Development Programme has provided technological and financial assistance towards the programme. The Map provides data on the locations of jungles, mineral resources, water, fisheries resources and residential areas in the North and will be beneficial to those who are engaged in the development activities.
