The discussions between the government and the University Lecturers have entered a positive course. Another round of discussions will be held on the 3rd of next month.
The discussions held between President Mahinda Rajapaksa and university lecturers ended on a positive note at the Temple Trees yesterday. The University Teachers Association presented their problems at the discussion. An agreement was reached to discuss the issues at a future date. Accordingly another round of discussions will be held on the 3rd of June. The Association informed that they have a good understanding of the situation in the country. They said that they are prepared to change their stance a little regarding their demands. Minister S.B. Dissanayake, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne and Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof. Gamini Samaranayake also participated in the discussion.
