The SOSL present German Masterworks on June 4, at the Ladies’ College Hall. Dr. Hans-Jurgen Nagel, who is in Sri Lanka for the first time, will conduct the SOSL in a programme comprising well-known and much-loved German music.
Beethoven’s Violin concert, a favourite, will be performed by Prof. Gottfried Schneider of the Munich School of Music and Theater. Schubert’s Rosamunde Overture remains one of his best-loved compositions, while Wagner’s Siegfired Idyll is the composer’s most performed instrumental work of music.
Both Dr. Nagel and Prof. Schneider have arrived in Sri Lanka with considerable international exposure and experience and both musicians have many television productions and CD compilations to consolidate their reputation. The SOSL is privileged to perform with two such eminent musicians. Prof. Schneider has been described as, “One of the few German violinists in his generation of international standing,” (Wolfgang Sawallisch). The performance of the demanding Beethoven Violin concert by a soloist of the calibre of Prof. Schneider will be a rare opportunity for any classical music lover.
The concert is made possible with the support of the Embassy of Germany, Mohan Tissanyagam and the Hilton Residencies. Electronic media support is provided by Channel 1 MTV and YesFM.
Box plan and tickets are available at Titus Stores, Liberty Plaza.
