Dengue is raising its head once again with the onset of rainy weather.
The Health Ministry has called upon the people to exercise vigilance in this connection. Secretary to the Health Ministry Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that in the surveys carried out last few week have shown an increase in the number of mosquito breeding places. He said that therefore action should be taken by all to destroy the mosquito breeding places. Special measures should be taken to clean the premises of Government sector as well as Non-Governmental and private sector organizations and the schools network. He said that consideration should be given to proper garbage disposal not only by the private citizens but also by the local government institutions.
The Health Ministry has decided to identify individuals who do not support dengue eradication work and who have mosquito breeding places in their premises and to take stringent action against them. A programme of selecting the 10 cleanest villages and the 10 dirtiest villages will also be launched. Special awards will be presented to the 10 cleanest villages.
