Government provides relief to flood affected people

The government is providing relief for those who have been affected by floods and landslides.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has issued instructions to accelerate the work without being confined to circulars.

The Minister said that the government and the president have expressed the need to provide instant relief to the affected people. He issued instructions to the Divisional Secretary to intervene in providing food to the affected people. He said that financial allocations will be provided by the government. He sought the direct intervention of political leaders in this connection. He said that this will be carried out without taking the income and the age differences of individuals into consideration. He said that changes have been effected to the circular in this connection.

A special discussion was held at the Galigamuva Divisional Secretariat under the patronage of Minister Mahinda Amaraweera. It focused on providing relief to the people affected by floods in Kegalle District. Hundred and seventy five houses in the district have been destroyed. The officials pointed out that a number of roads are in a dilapidated condition due to the rains and land slides. Senior Minister Athauda Seneviratne, Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and District Secretary of Kegalle Prema Dissanayake also participated in the meeting. Later they paid their last respects to the mother and daughter who lost their lives in a land slide in Dammala, Galigamuva. Secretary to the Ministry Siththi Mareena Mohamed was also present.
