A racket of gem mining in the high security zone surrounding the Castle Rae reservoir has been exposed.
The raid was carried out by the Special Task Force. Gem mining had been carried out in several isles that had appeared due to the low level of water in the reservoir. The STF personnel who carried out the raid said that about 500 holes were dug in an area of one acre. The mines had been washed off to the reservoir causing much environmental damage. The STF had handed over the suspects and the implements used by them to the Norwood police for further investigation.
