The economically deprived students need no other means of ragging.
Minister of Higher Education S.B. Disssanayake said that ragging which is carried out to meet political aims, damages the personality of students.
The Minister said that very poor students enter Universities. They may have economic, family or social problems. He said that primarily the students should be able to concentrate in order to become brilliant people such as scientists. He said that ragging is not allowed in universities this year. The new students can introduce themselves to the senior students. Thereafter they should start their academic activities. The Minister expressed this view when he made an inspection tour at the camps where leadership training programmes are being held for university entrants. The Minister visited the camps at Horana, Kalutara, Galle, Bussa and Elpitiya.
