SC butcher hangs up his cleaver after 38 years

In the chill of the meat department at the Rock Hill Harris Teeter, the gasps came out over and over from the little old ladies with their lists and their grocery carts and their real reason for showing up that is soon to be taken from them.
"No, Shag! Don't go!"
The protests came over the chicken, pork and beef and Shag's irrepressible talking, which stops only for a breath - and then only maybe.
It is unthinkable, impossible, that there could be a Rock Hill or a Harris Teeter without Shag the Butcher smiling and talking and making somebody's life just a little bit better that day.
The sun may as well not rise.
