A special programme will be launched in August for the control of dengue.

The Health Ministry has decided to name the first two Mondays and the last two Saturdays of August for the countrywide dengue control programme. Many programmes are already underway under the supervision of the Health Ministry to control the disease which has surfaced with the unfavourable weather situation. Action will be initiated to eliminate dengue mosquito breeding grounds in every state institution as well as in home and Vihares on the respective days in August.

Minister Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the relevant sectors to take stern action against individuals and institutions maintaining mosquito breeding grounds. Meanwhile, the Ministry warns the public to seek advice of medical specialists, if fever continues for over two days.
