UNP: Key SL Military Officers Not At Confab

Jun 1, 2011 10:55:20 AM - thesundayleader.lk

The UNP has said that the main military officers who played a key role in the war victory have not been given a chance to address the international seminar organized by the country on defeating terrorism in the country.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has told the media that instead of the forces chiefs including former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, it was the likes of External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivaard Cabraal, Prof. Malkanthi Hettiarachchi, and Prof. Rajiva Wijesinghe who have been chosen to make speeches at the confab.

He has said that Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had the right to speak at the event as he played a role in the war.

According to Attanayake, it was unfortunate to see that Fonseka, Major General Shavendra Silva, Major General Kamal Gunaratne, Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda and former Air Force Commander Roshan Gunatilleke were not given a chance to speak at the confab.
