Political parties and Trade Unions are concerned over the Katunayake tragedy

Jun 2, 2011 12:02:07 PM - itnnews.lk

Political party and Trade Union leaders have said that sacrificing of innocent lives on behalf of aims of opportunists, is a tragedy.

The Democratic Left Front in a statement said the killing of FTZ employees by conspirators is a tragedy. The Government has embarked on a people’s friendly development path eschewing policies subjugated by privatization after ending the war. Creating a violent situation within the country at such a time helps and entices westernized rightwing alien conspirators. As such the endeavour of local and foreign westernized rightwing conspirators is to create disturbances in the country. The statement called on all democratic forces including the working fraternity to take the led in trouncing such conspiracies.

In the meantime, the Joint Trade Union Alliance said that the death of Roshen Shanaka, a colleague of the working fraternity was the result of an effort of a certain group to fulfill their political aims. Organisations depending on foreign funds were exploiting the working class on behalf of narrow political aims despite continuous conversations being held by the Government with Trade Union for productive amendments to the Pensions Bill. The Joint Trade Union Alliance in its statement underlined that they strongly denounced the JVP’s disgraceful politicians who are engaged in an unsuccessful attempt to cover their political nakedness.
