The people take to the streets to protest JVP attempts to meet their political objectives sacrificing lives of innocent youth. Protests are being staged countrywide against the opportunistic politics of the JVP.
A massive demonstration was staged opposite the Colombo-Fort Railway Station this morning to protest against the JVP’s opportunistic programme. The demonstrators accused the JVP’s direct involvement in the clash which took place in Katunayake by instigating the workers of the FTZ, despite the Government’s announcement that these workers are excluded from the proposed Pensions Scheme. The demonstrators marched from near the Bodhi in Pettah and participated in the protest campaign near the Railway Station. Many Trade Union leaders, including Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana participated in the demonstration.
In the meantime, another massive protest was staged near the Lipton Circus against the JVP. It was jointly organized by a number of Trade Unions including the Sri Lanka Freedom Employees Union.
The people of Galle have also taken to the streets condemning the programme mooted by the JVP to achieve their political objectives. This demonstration was staged in the Galle City. The people expressed their strong protest against endeavours made by the JVP to somehow achieve their political desires by objecting to every beneficial steps taken by the Government.
