A 57-year-old Eastover man has been arrested and charged with the abuse of an elderly relative who died from injuries sustained while in his care, the Richland County Sheriffs Department said Wednesday.
Eddie James Williams was taken into custody at his attorneys office Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Richland County Sheriffs Department, Williams was the primary caregiver of 75-year-old Geneva Roberson. Roberson suffered from dementia.
Authorities were altered to a possible case of neglect earlier this year. When they visited the house on Lincoln Park Point in Eastover on March 22, the victim had severe abrasions on her body. She was taken into protective custody and hospital officials told authorities that the wounds could have been prevented with proper care.
The victim died on May 16 in a nursing home as a result of her injuries, Sheriff Leon Lott said.
