Orangeburg residents get access to farmers market

It's now easier for medically underserved patients in Orangeburg to get fresh fruits and vegetables at the state's first farmers market located at a federally qualified health center.
Starting this week, the Right Choice, Fresh Start Farmers Market will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Fridays through October at Family Health Centers, Inc. in Orangeburg.
Officials hope the farmers market will give people in rural communities easier access to healthy food options. At least five farmers are expected to sell produce each week at the market, which is open to the general public.
The pilot project is supported by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network at the University of South Carolina.
