The first IT village in Sri Lanka is being built in Suriyawewa in Hambantota.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa stated this at a meeting held in Hambantota under the patronage of Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya. He said that massive development is taking place in the country and tourism is being developed from one side while industrialization is also taking place. He said that foundation has already been laid for this and the first IT village will be constructed close to the Suriyawewa International Stadium. The purpose of the meeting was to entertain the problems faced by the Nanasala activists and their suggestions. Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said that the aim of the programme is to increase the IT knowledge which remains at 27 percent at present to 80 percent. A computer plant will also be set up in the Lunugamvehera area simultaneously. The meeting was held for Nanasala activists spread throughout the country.
