National Environment Day observed

Progranmmes were held throughout the country to observe the World Environment Day. The national function was held at Pinnawala.

The theme of the environment day is “Forests: Nature at your service”. Attempts will be made to launch draw peoples attention towards medicinal and fruit tree cultivation campaigns and forest conservation under the programme. The National Environment Day ceremony was held at the Pinnawala National School under the patronage of Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa. Medicinal and fruit trees were planted in the Namalgamuva village in Marukwatura, Rambukkana. The function consisted of marches, environmental exhibitions and cultural shows. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Ministers and Parliamentarians participated in the function. Meanwhile a dengue eradication programme was held at Jayawadanagama road in Wickramasinghepura simultaneously. It was conducted by the offcers of the environment unit of the Talangama Police and members of the civil defence force under the instructions of SSP- Nugegoda-Deshabandu Tennakoon.
