Traffic stop leads to drug, weapons charges for Columbia man

A moving violation has led to a lot more legal trouble for a Columbia man.
Bruce Lee Barrett, 46, was stopped in January for speeding near Sardinia in Clarendon County. The arresting officer reported that the convicted felon also had a loaded, stolen weapon and cocaine in the vehicle.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Columbia indicted Barrett on Wednesday, charging him with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen weapon, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a weapon during the commission of a a drug trafficking crime.
The maximum penalty for conviction on those charges is a $1 million fine and life imprisonment.
