Local as well as foreign tourists now have the opportunity of watching whales in deep sea in the East.
The Sri Lanka Navy today launched a vessel targeting local and foreign tourists who are interested in whale watching. Its passenger ship A-543 is being used for this operation. The vessel was launched from the Trincomalee Harbour. The ship is expected to operate thrice a week for the benefit of local and foreign tourists who wish to engage in whale watching. Whale watching in the eastern part of the country commenced with the South East monsoons setting in. High tides attract whales to the Eastern Coastal area. Whale watching in the Eastern coast goes on till September. The ship operated in the Southern coast earlier this year.
