Some Conway residents said they were shocked to learn Wednesday that their neighbor has been charged in the death of his wife.
Graham Etherden said his neighbors Daniel Monarch and Phyllis Ann Monarch seemed to be "perfectly friendly."
Police charged Dan Monarch, 53, of 128 Creel St., with murder Wednesday, hours after Phyllis Monarch was reported missing.
"I thought they were a nice couple," said Etherden, who recalled talking to the couple about the weather and gardening. "He would be doing yardwork, and I would be doing yardwork, and we would wave to each other. I knew them as neighbors."
Phyllis Ann Monarch's body was found in a ditch off New Road about 1:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Conway Police Department.
