Wage hike for estate workers

Talks between Estate Trade Unions and Employers have been fruitful. The wages of estate workers will rise to 515 rupees.

 

Trade Unions launched action in the past demanding a hike in the wages of the workers. President Rajapakse gave instructions to Minister Arumugam Thondaman to immediately mediate and grant some relief to the workers. The talks between the Estate Trade Unions and the Employers held in several stages had been productive. Accordingly the daily wage of the workers will rise from 285 to 380 rupees. President of the Ceylon Workers Congress and Deputy Minister Muttusivalingam announced that accordingly the total wage of a worker will rise from 405 to 515 rupees, inclusive of allowances and incentives.
