South Carolina troopers and other law enforcement and emergency personnel will be along several highways leading from the coast to practice reversing lanes on major roads in case of a hurricane.
The Public Safety Department is warning drivers to be a little more careful on Tuesday as the exercises take place on Interstate 26 in Charleston and Columbia; U.S. 501 in Horry County and several major roads in Beaufort County.
Troopers say no lanes will be reversed as part of the training.
South Carolina put a plan in place to reverse lanes on major interstates and highways leading away from the coast after evacuations for Hurricane Floyd in 1999 caused massive gridlock.
