Minister Basil Rajapaksa monitors the development activities that are in progress in the Eastern Province.
The Minister inspected the bridges that have been developed and are to be developed within the Trincomalee District under the Eastern Resurgence Programme. Instructions were given to the relevant sectors to reconstruct roads and bridges that are in a dilapidated condition. Kinniya which is considered to be the longest bridge to be built in the country was also observed. It is 396 meters long. It is an impetus for the tourism industry, fisheries activities and transport.
The Minister also seized the opportunity of inspecting the new Yaan Oya Bridge along the Trincomalee – Batticaloe road and the Pudavaikattu Bridge. He had a cordial discussion with the fisher fraternity. The bridge was built with the full mediation of the Government last year. The 300 meter long Irakkandi Bridge was thrice devastated by the terrorist. It was also built with the full contribution of the Engineering Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army in 2009. Minister Basil Rajapaka pointed out the action will be taken to reconstruct the Thiriyaya and Salape-Aru bridges.
