Columbia police have arrested a 51-year-old Columbia man for the robbery Wednesday afternoon of a Gervais Street gas station.
According to the Columbia Police Department account of events, around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday John Edward Portlock jumped over the counter of the Exxon station at 2020 Gervais Street and grabbed cash from the cash register. He was taken into custody by city police while fleeing the scene.
