As a sovereign country, Sri Lanka deals only with other Central Governments. Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has emphasized that Sri Lanka was not dealing with any states of a country. The Minister was responding to a statement said to have been made by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
The Minister opined that Sri Lanka dealt with India on a Government to Government basis and not with individual Indian State Governments. Sri Lanka is a sovereign country and all state level discussions are based between two sovereign nations. Discussions were held between Central Government and also the main opposition. However, a joint programme should be mooted for the implementation of the decisions reached through a joint programme.
