President Rajapaksa hands over the Samadhi Buddha Statues to the External Affairs Ministry to be entrusted to Sri Lankan diplomats
The programme to provide Samadhi Buddha Statues to Sri Lankan Missions abroad was being launched in parallel to the 2600th Sambudhatva Jayanthi. It was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Employment, the Presidential Secretariat and the Foreign Employment Bureau. 26 Samadhi Buddha Statues were escorted in a motorcade to Colombo from Matara. The Buddha Statues were placed at the Independent Square last night. All night Pirith chanting was also conducted. President Rajapaksa paid obeisance to the Samadhi Buddha Statues at Temple Trees today. The Statues are to be taken to Sri Lankan Missions abroad. Members of the Maha Sangha and Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris and Dilan Perera were present.
