Sri Lanka’s oldest and veteran Film Director Dr. Lester James Peries and Sumithra Peries have come together to set up a Foundation for the development of the Sinhala cinema.
The launch of the Foundation took place at the BMICH under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa. Dr. Lester James Peries and Sumithra Peries for nearly six decades had earned international fame and received Awards for the outstanding film productions. The purpose of the launch of the Foundation is to pass on their experience to the posterity. A website www.ljpspfoundation.org was also launched. Veteran cinema artiste Ravindra Randeniya read a greetings message issued by President Rajapaksa. Celebrated Indian film maker Dr. Adhur Gopala Krishnan and Prof. Wimal Dissananayke delivered special lectures. Parliamentarians, foreign diplomats and artistes graced the occasion.
