Residents in an islet in Kalptiya have commenced to agitate against the construction of a tourism resort under the government’s proposed tourism development programme in Kalpitiya.
The media has reported today that people residing in the Mohothuwarama islet have commenced protesting against the construction of a resort.
The residents have claimed the land being used to construct the resort belonged to a Catholic church.
The main source of income for the residents amounting to about 200 living in the islet is fishing. However, they have reportedly commenced an agitation campaign against the construction of the tourism resort.
