Special transport services are operative in view of the Poson Festival.
These transport services are operative from today to cater to the needs of devotees visiting Anuradhapura and Mihintale for Poson. Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board M.B. Bandusena said that 400 buses will do additional trips. These buses will be running from every part of the country to Anuradhapura. He said that the transport services have been enhanced so that the public will not have spend long hours in queues. The SLTB Chairman noted that between 150 and 200 buses will operate daily and there will also be special services between Anuradhapura and Mihintale. A special bus service between Gampola and Anuradhapura was launched under the patronage of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne. It will be operative until the Poson Festival draws to an end. In the meantime, Railways Planning Director Vijaya Samarasinghe said thata special train service is also operative to cater to the needs of the devotees. This special service is operative from today until Wednesday. Additional trains are operating from Matara and Galle to Anuradhapura and also from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura. In addition, Vijaya Samarasinghe said that a powerset has been deployed from today between Anuradhapura and Mihintale, granting free services to the devotees.
