About 70 animals from a Williamsburg County animal shelter have been taken to Charleston while a court case over the shelter's operations proceeds.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that a Williamsburg County magistrate allowed the animals to be taken to Charleston earlier this month. But Magistrate William Driggers has set a hearing for next week on whether conditions in the shelter justify getting the dogs and cats back.
The shelter board and Williamsburg County have clashed over its operations in the past.
The county recently canceled an agreement that allowed the shelter board to set policy and sign up volunteers to work at the shelter.
