A man who allegedly shot his pregnant girlfriend in the face is on the run and police believe he may be headed to Columbia.
Nigel Kendell Thomas, 21, who has residences in Silverstreet and in Columbia is wanted on attempted murder charges in connection with the Tuesday afternoon shooting, Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said.
Thomas and his girlfriend, Alena Loretta Marbury, 21, were temporarily living in Silverstreet, Foster said. Both also have an apartment on the 1600 block of Riverwind Drive in Columbia, he said.
Thomas allegedly pulled out a small caliber handgun during an argument and shot Marbury in the right cheek, Foster said. A relative drove Marbury to a hospital in Newberry but she was being airlifted to another hospital, Foster said. That hospital's location is undisclosed because police have not found Thomas, the sheriff reported.
Thomas was last seen driving a grey, 2004 Saturn Ion with the S.C. license tag HFX 850. The grey Saturn has been located, however, at a relative's house in Newberry but Thomas has not been found.
