The state Senate agreed Wednesday with the House on new measures
intended to halt spiraling copper thefts in the state.
By a 39-1 vote, senators agreed to require those who sell copper to get
a permit from their local sheriff's department.
Also, the bill prohibits recyclers from making cash payments for copper,
catalytic converts and beer kegs.
The bill now heads to Gov. Nikki Haley's desk for her signature or veto.
