The Parliamentary roundabout area is being subject to modernization with the intention of finding solutions to floods.
Battaramulla, Polduwa, the Parliament and surrounding areas faced flood threats due to torrential rain experienced in the past. People who lived in the surrounding areas as well as commuters experienced hardships due to flood waters. The Defence Ministry drawing its attention to this matter has unveiled a special programme to save the Polduwa area from floods. It is being jointly launched by the Road Development Authority and the Land Reclamation and Development Corporation. Accordingly the Polduwa Bidge which is about 45 meters long will be extended by another 25 meters while the gap between the two bunds of the bridge is being increased.Accordingly part of the Diyawanna Canal from near the Polduwa Bridge is now being reclaimed. The project will incur an expenditure of nearly 200 million rupees. The work is due to be completed within a short period.
