ITN denounces C-4 Report

Jun 16, 2011 11:53:04 AM - itnnews.lk

The Independent Television Network as a National Media Institution has strongly denounced the programme telecast over Channel Four TV in Britain to meet the ends of the LTTE loyalists denigrating the Sri Lankan Security Forces. This video footage had been produced to meet the needs of the LTTE loyalist Tamil community. An untiring effort had been made to project that Sri Lankan Forces were committing war crimes. ITN condemns the telecasting of such a programme which tarnishes the sovereignty and the image of another country by a media institution in Britain which continuously refers to advanced democracy and media ethics. Channel Four should have had the moral right to make queries on the truth of the contents of this programme from the Sri Lankan Government or the Security Forces. However it has not done so. It is a flagrant violation of media morality.Since the commencement of humanitarian operation, the basic objective of the Sri Lankan Government was to see that no harm was inflicted on the lives of innocent unarmed civilians. It was with this intention that the operation was termed in this manner. The Sri Lankan Forces and the Government took optimum initiatives to meet the needs of civilians. This was also witnessed by International Representatives who arrived in the country during the final stage of the humanitarian operation. Even the reports of these International Representatives were published over the media and in internet.

Under such circumstances, the Independent Television Network totally condemns the efforts made to insult the Sri Lankan Government by producing a series of incidents in a distorted manner.
