Senior Prof. Rohan Gunaratne, Head of the International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research at the Nanyang Technological University has warned that although LTTE terrorism has been completely wiped out from Sri Lanka, it has not yet been eradicated from the world. As such he said Sri Lanka should be more cautious about it.
Prof. Gunaratne said that although the LTTE had been routed in Sri Lanka, it was a strong outfit in the world. The LTTE International Network had taken action to provide false reports to international organizations and thereby act against Sri Lanka. At the same time LTTE outfit was discussing with international Media Networks such as Channel Four and attempting to exert pressure on Sri Lanka by giving false information.
The Professor said the Government should take appropriate action. Inquiries should be made by state leaders of Sri Lanka as to what was taking place within international organizations. Thereafter a counter plan should be mooted. If not Prof. Gunaratne noted that more video footage such as the programme telecast by Channel Four would be telecast against Sri Lanka. Although many countries would ignore such propaganda, the people will begin to think that such incidents may have taken place within Sri Lanka. As such he said the Sri Lankan Government should join hands with other media institutions, UN organizations and NGOs to launch counter propaganda.
