The International Economic Forum which looks for future leadership of the world economy opens in Saint Petersburg in Russia. The Sri Lankan President has held discussions with many state leaders.
The state leader’s session of the International Economic Forum opened at the Lenexpo Conference Hall in the Vasilevski Islands near the Neva River in Saint Petersburg today. President Rajapaksa joined as an observer. The President who is participating in the conference following an invitation extended by Russia had brief discussions with many state leaders before the sessions opened.
Among the state leaders with whom the President had discussions today were Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Prime Minister of the caretaker Government of Belgium Yovez Leterme, Prime Minister of Spain Jose Lius Rodriguez Zapa Tero and Finland President Tarja Halonen. Economic Development Minister of Russia Elvira Nabiulina in her welcome speech of the sessions said Russia as the world’s 6th largest economy was further advancing. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev pointed out that his country would be giving optimum support to realize the objectives of the International Economic Forum. Chinese President Hu Jintao also addressed the sessions.
