A St. Andrews Road store clerk might have gotten a second chance at life Thursday when an armed robber’s weapon misfired.
Julia Zettlemoyer was working at the Ca$h Quick at 6169 St. Andrews Road around 10 a.m. when a man entered the store and ordered her at gunpoint to the back of the business, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said.
The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from a safe, then aimed his gun at Zettlemoyer, 31, and pulled the trigger, she told investigators. The gun did not fire.
The suspect took Zettlemoyer’s cellphone and exited out the front door.
Zettlemoyer had her own weapon a .38 caliber handgun, which she fired once at the suspect as he ran to his car. Zettlemoyer said she fired two more times at the car, but was not sure if she hit the target.
