Three elephants knocked down by train

Three elephants died after being hit by a train at Galgamuwa.

The three wild elephants had been knocked down by the train at Getadivula along the Galgamuwa – Ambanpola rail track. The trio was crossing the tracks when they were stuck by a passenger train. Among the dead was a baby elephant. Chandana Jayasinghe the Veterinary Doctor of the Wildlife Department is conducting the autopsies.  This is reported to be the worst accident involving elephants.  About two months ago three elephants were hit by a train in the East of the country and two of them died.
