The Northern civilians are proud that they are able to lead peaceful lives after the liberation of the country from terrorism. The Northern civilians made this claim at a function organized to mark the completion of two years of the Sri Lanka Air Force Base in Iranamadu.
Iranamadu was at one time rife with terrorist activities. It was liberated from the terrorists by the gallant soldiers of the 57th Division under the guidance of Maj. Gen. Jagath Dias in January 2009.The Air Force Base in Iranamadu was thereafter established on 21st June the same year. Many public programmes were organized at the Wattakachchi Maha Vidyalaya commemorating the event.
The events were held on the instructions of the Commanding Officer Wing Commander Haley Rupasinghe. In parallel to Dental and Medical Clinics, school gear was distributed among the children. A notable feature was the reconstruction of the school being carried out by the Air Force Base. Iranamadu located in the Kilinochci District, is situated in the midst of Pooneryn, Elephant Pass, Mankulum and Puthukudiyiruppu. Civilian life has returned to normalcy with the upgrading of infrastructure including schools, hospitals and Government offices.
