The Carlton Suwa Udana Health and Nutrition Programme was launched at the Wepassawela Maha Vidyalaya at Etampitiya in Bandarawala under the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.
The programme is a concept of the First Lady. It is being implemented countrywide. Special features of the programme include the upgrading of health and nutritional standards of people living in remote areas, build a positive mentality and seek their contribution to the development of the country. Special attention is being drawn to the health of children and women. Identification of diseases, undertaking scanning with the use of modern equipment and the provision of consultancy services for expectant mothers, are among the many programmes that are being conducted.
The granting of financial assistance to children and women in need of specialized medical treatment in addition to hospital treatment is being provided under the mediation of the First Lady. She also participated in many programme at the Wepassawela Vidyalaya including the granting of spectacles. Minister Dilan Perera and Health Ministry Officials were present.
