Private bus operators today threatened to launch trade union action if the bus fares are not revised according to their demands.
Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) head, Gemunu Wijeratne told a press conference that the bus fares should be increased by at least 10 percent and the minimum fare by Rs. 2.
Wijeratne said that if the bus fare were not increased accordingly, they would launch a bus strike from the 27th of this month.
He added that the government had to make a final decision on the bus fare hike within the course of the week.
