Nutritional level has not increased according to income – Minister

Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that the nutritional level had not increased according to the income. He plans to find solutions to this problem under the Divi Neguma programme.The Minister was addressing state officials at the Presidential Secretariat to appraise them about the Divi Neguma programme. Its first stage is already in implementation covering all Districts in the island. Mooted with the intention of upgrading the nutritional level and income of families, the target of the programme was to launch one million domestic economic units countrywide. It is intended to increase the production of vegetables and fruits by 25 percent. Vegetable seeds and fertilizer have already been provided to a majority of domestic economic units. It is also hoped to launch many projects costing 130 million rupees in 14 fields. Minister Basil Rajapaksa said it would be possible to re-establish a self-sufficient economy which was witnessed in the past.
