A doctor who served in Welfare Camps says eyewitnesses aware of the task discharged by troops

Jun 20, 2011 11:41:02 AM - itnnews.lk

Director of the Ampara General Hospital Dr. Lankatilake Jayasinghe has said that eye witnesses of the final stage of the humanitarian operations are well aware of the task discharged by the troops and the Government whatever baseless reports were being published. Dr. Lankatilake during that period had served as the Acting Medical Director in charge of the Relief Camp which housed civilians displaced by LTTE terrorism. Dr. Lankatilake said he was in charge of the Cheddikulam Vavuniya Welfare camps. Those who had taken shelter in these camps are witness to the events that took place during the operation and incidents mentioned in the Report are baseless. These civilians would divulge the truth if they are being interviewed by any person. They claim that they are now enjoying better living conditions. He said that representatives of many UN Agencies had visited these Camps and collected data. An opportunity was provided by the Government for them to serve in these Welfare Camps. Dr. Lankatilake claimed that no one should be disturbed by the Channel Four report which was aimed at embarrassing the country.
