Construction work on the Jaffna Railway Station begins marking another milestone in the massive development effort of the North and East. The related MOU was inked today.
Deputy Superintendent of Assistant Services of the Bank of Ceylon M.K. Nandasiri and General Manager Railways B.A.P. Ariyaratne signed the deal. The ceremony was held at the Transport Ministry under the patronage of Minister Kumara Welgama. The distance of the rail track from Vavuniya to Kankesanthurai is 159 kilometers. There will be 16 Railway Stations and 12 Sub Stations. The development of the track will be carried out in three stages. The Government has mooted many projects to meet the transport facilities of the North with the total eradication of terrorism. Expressing his views on this occasion Minister Kumara Welgama said such a development project will make a direct contribution to the national economy as well as the people with the transport of products of the North and East to the South.
