The JVP has accused the current administration of following the governance and economic policies of former President J.R. Jayewardene.
JVP parliamentary group leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake addressing the National Student Heroes’ Day organized by the Socialist Students’ Union said the Jayewardene administration’s economic policies depended on foreign investments and also amended the Constitution in a manner that threatened democracy.
He said the failures experienced in several sectors like health and education in the country were also experienced during the Jayewardene period.
Dissanayake noted that the government has understood the strength of student movements and added that the state also considered those who fight to win the rights of the people are misfits.
According to him, the government felt threatened by the undefeatable nature of students’ movements.
