Another programme has been launched for the development of schools to strengthen the right to education of the children in the North.
The new programme was launched to develop schools in the most remote areas in Jaffna under the supervision of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Measures have been taken to improve the building facilities in Mahajana College in Thellippalai in the first phase. A three storied building consisting of class rooms, laboratory and library facilities is being constructed at the cost of 25 million rupees. The Jaffna Commander Maj. Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe said that assistance from security forces will also be obtained for this purpose. The Jaffna Commander said that this is an investment made by the Army in terms of education of the children in Jaffna. He said that the Defence Secretary is making a special contribution in this connection.
