Private bus operators today said that the private busses would launch a strike on Monday (27) demanding a bus far hike of 10 percent.
Speaking to The Sunday Leader, President of the Lanka Private Bus Operators’ Association (PBOA) Gemunu Wijeratne said that the strike action has been confirmed and that the private buses would launch the strike on the 27th.
When asked if it would be a continuous strike, Wijeratne said the private bus operators would decide on the 26th if they are to make it a continuous strike or a one day strike.
He said that arrangement shave been made to distribute leaflets among commuters informing of the decision to strike and the reason for it.
The private bus operators have requested for 10 percent increase in bus fares and an increase of the minimum bus fare by Rs. 2.
Meanwhile, the government has proposed a bus fare hike of 7 percent.
