The renovation work of the ancient Dutch Fort in Jaffna will be completed next year.
The Fort constructed by the Dutch in 1680 was destroyed due to terrorist activities in the past. The conservation work of the Fort got underway recently under aid from the Government of the Netherlands. More than 104 million rupees is being spent on the conservation work. The Governments of the Netherlands as well as Sri Lanka are providing funds for this purpose. Large numbers arrive in Jaffna daily for sightseeing. The Ministry of National Heritage and Cultural Affairs said that the conservation work will be expedited to provide the opportunity for these tourists to view the historic place.
